Our private client practice has developed as we progressed from being a trusted advisor to our corporate clients, to advising on succession and legacy planning needs of some of the founders or key executives of these corporates. Our work in this area involves advising on preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorneys and trusts (both testamentary and living trusts) for devolving or managing their assets, including their listed company or corporate investments, and our principal lawyers draw extensively on their corporate law experience and, often, their intimate knowledge of our clients’ underlying businesses to advise and provide tailored solutions for our high-net worth individual clients.
Our recent work in this area includes:
- Advised a prominent local venture capital senior executive on will and living trust arrangements for his personal assets that include significant carried interests entitlements potentially arising from the funds that whom he advises, with a value of approximately up to S$150 million
- Advised a local start-up founder of a significant home-grown group in the real estate industry on will and testamentary trust arrangements for his minor children in relation to his assets and that of his spouse, with assets comprising real properties, investments and shareholding interests in his business
- Advised a single-parent client planning a re-marriage on setting up living trust arrangements for her pre-matrimonial assets including insurance policies and real estate interests in Singapore in favour of her daughter, with corresponding stamp duty payment remission, with a value of approximately S$20 million.
